About Me
"A Mind is a Terrible Thing to Waste…” -UNCF
Justen DeBowles has always had an interest in the thoughts and minds of individuals, and how those thoughts influence our actions, responses, and behavior. This interest started his senior year of high school after taking one psychology class and continued to grow as he got older. This led him to a break away from his initial passion of computer science to pursue a passion for learning people instead of machines. A graduate of Morehouse College in Downtown, Atlanta, he also has a strong love for the african american community and its mental stability and health. After graduating college, he sought his graduate education and received a Master of Science in Psychology at Auburn University Montgomery in Montgomery, Alabama. Since returning from graduate school, he has worked at various mental health agencies serving the community by doing both in-office and in-home sessions. He chose this path to ensure that he stayed close to his community in their element. He has worked multiple years at a Mental Health Hospital, helping individuals recovering from both mental disabilities and substance addiction and abuse. He describes the hospital environment as “a true test to determine if the counseling and mental health field is really for someone or not.” After years of supervision, He received his LPC in the state of Georgia in 2016, and spent some time learning under others how to operate a private practice before finally opening his own in the summer of 2019. Since then, he has been continuing to serve his community both in their homes and in his office, offering counseling and therapy to Men, women, children, and families with a strong devotion to African Americans and minorities. He aims to help people learn to become the best versions of themselves by helping their minds help their behavior, which can impact their environment and community.
